Women are increasingly taking center stage in the African mining sector, challenging traditional stereotypes and driving growth. Zenzi Awases, President of the Association of Women in Mining in Africa (AWIMA), is at the forefront of this revolution.

At the forefront of this transformation is Zenzi Awases, President of the Association of Women in Mining in Africa (AWIMA).

Addressing the Mining Indaba 2025, Awases outlined her vision for an inclusive and equitable mining industry, where women are empowered to pursue careers and break down barriers.

“It is crucial for women to be here. If our voices are not heard, and we do not take advantage of opportunities to speak up, we will fall further behind. What is particularly encouraging this year is the focus of the discussions. We are talking about small scale miners, women in the community, and youth. That is exactly where we need to concentrate our efforts this year,” said Awases.

AWIMA provides critical support, including training, mentorship, and networking opportunities, to help women overcome the unique challenges they face in the industry.
