The City of Bulawayo Fire and Ambulance Services has been assigned by the government to train firefighters for all Rural District Councils (RDCs) in the southern region of the country.

Bulawayo Fire Chief Nhlangano Moyo said preparations for the training sessions are at an advanced stage, with the program set to begin in Beitbridge, Gwanda, Tsholotsho, Matobo, Hwange, Nsiza, and Bulilima. He confirmed that Matobo RDC has scheduled its firefighter training for April.

The training follows a Ministry of Local Government and Public Works initiative in partnership with the Republic of Belarus, which equipped urban fire departments with firefighting gear while rural authorities received fire tenders. The upcoming sessions aim to ensure RDC personnel are trained in the use and maintenance of this equipment.

This initiative is part of government efforts to improve emergency response and curb rising fire incidents and road traffic accidents.
