The Government of Zimbabwe has approved the Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (ZIMSEC) Amendment Bill, aimed at curbing examination leakages, registration irregularities, and fraudulent practices within the education system.

Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Dr. Jenfan Muswere, said the bill seeks to strengthen accountability and protect the integrity of Zimbabwe’s examinations.

“This amendment bill is a crucial step towards protecting the sanctity of our examinations,” Dr. Muswere stated. “It will establish robust mechanisms to deter and punish those who attempt to undermine the system.”

Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Honourable Torerayi Moyo, added that the proposed legislation classifies exam malpractice as a serious offence. Offenders may face imprisonment, while implicated examination centres risk deregistration under the new measures.

“Under this new law, individuals found guilty of exam malpractice will face the prospect of imprisonment,” Honourable Moyo explained. “Furthermore, examination centers implicated in such activities will be subject to deregistration, effectively barring them from conducting future examinations.”
