President Emmerson Mnangagwa has reaffirmed government’s commitment to improving healthcare, housing, and social services, highlighting ongoing reforms aimed at expanding access and strengthening service delivery across Zimbabwe.

Addressing Independence Day celebrations at Maphisa Stadium on Saturday, the President said efforts are underway to modernise the health sector through the procurement of diagnostic equipment, upgrading of facilities, and the training and retention of skilled medical personnel.

“We are committed to the establishment of modern and well structured health services throughout Zimbabwe,” he said

He added that these measures are expected to reduce waiting times and improve access to specialised care, particularly in rural and underserved areas which include the recent rehabilitation of Kezi Rural Hospital and Maphisa Hospital.

On housing, the President said government and its partners have delivered hundreds of thousands of housing units, with plans to expand inclusive and resilient settlements in both urban and rural areas.

“Well over 800,000 housing units have been availed,” he said, adding that decentralisation remains important, saying devolution policies are key to improving local service delivery and ensuring communities benefit directly from development programmes.

The President also highlighted ongoing programmes aimed at strengthening social services, including access to education and healthcare under national development frameworks as the country seeks to achieve the National Development Strategy Two (NDS2).
