Kezi man jailed 15 years for raping daughter

A 74-year-old man from Kezi has been sentenced to an effective fifteen years in prison by the Gwanda Regional Magistrates’ Court for raping his 34 year-old mentally incapacitated biological daughter.
The court heard that the incident occurred in January this year at the family homestead in the Chief Bidi area, while the convict’s wife was away.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe, the crime was discovered by the convict’s son, who returned home and witnessed the assault. The son immediately alerted his older sister, and a report was subsequently made to the police, leading to the man’s arrest.
Medical and psychiatric evaluation reports from Maphisa District Hospital were presented as evidence during the trial.
In passing sentence, the court emphasized that perpetrators of sexual violence, particularly those targeting vulnerable family members, will face aggressive prosecution.
