The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has joined the national football community in mourning the tragic death of FC Platinum midfielder Brian Banda, who succumbed to injuries sustained in a car accident over the weekend.
Banda, aged 29, was widely respected as one of the country’s most disciplined and talented midfielders. A former Highlanders player and a key member of the national team, his impact on Zimbabwean football was both profound and far-reaching.
In a heartfelt statement, ZIFA President Nqobile Magwizi expressed the association’s deep sorrow.
“We are devastated by the loss of Brian Banda. He was a remarkable footballer and a humble leader, both on and off the field,” said Magwizi.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, his teammates at FC Platinum, and all those who were touched by his life and career. Zimbabwean football has lost one of its finest.”
National team coach Michael Nees also paid tribute to Banda’s professionalism and character.
“Brian’s presence in the Warriors squad was always felt not just through his talent, but through his discipline, his work ethic, and his respect for the badge,” said Nees.
“This is a painful loss for all of us who had the honour of working with him.”
Known for his quiet strength and unwavering commitment, Banda inspired countless young footballers across Zimbabwe. His passing has left a deep void in the local football fraternity.
ZIFA concluded its message by offering condolences to Banda’s family, friends, former teammates, and the entire FC Platinum community during what it described as “an incredibly difficult time.”
