Bubi Hospice Care Organization is calling on the community to join its fundraising event ahead of World Hospice and Palliative Care Day, which is observed every second Saturday of October.
The event, set for October 5th, aims to raise money to drill a borehole at the hospice in Gravesend Extension, Bubi, about 38 kilometers from Bulawayo. The hospice, which opened a school in 2023, now cares for 40 children, many of whom are terminally ill.
Co-founder Adelaide Nyathi told Skyz Metro FM that having a reliable water supply is critical for the children’s daily care and activities.
“Now we have 40 children, of which we’re relying on the community borehole, with the number, as it increases, it becomes a challenge for the school not to have water. So we’re fundraising to drill water in that place,” said Nyathi.
The fundraising will feature a 21km marathon from Kenyani to the airport, a cycling race along the same route, a motorbike ride, and a 5km family fun run.
The day will feature football and netball matches, including teams from Highlanders, Nyaradzo Group, Value Gas, Bakers Inn, and Nedbank, among others. Entertainment for children will include jumping castles, trampolines, face painting, and more.
Registration is pegged at $10, and interested individuals can contact 0772 994 337 to register.
