A 39-year-old man from Musuna area has been sentenced to an effective 19 years in prison after the Hwange Regional Court found him guilty of indecent assault and aggravated indecent assault.

The court heard that the man targeted his 36-year-old cousin-in-law at her home in Breamland Gardens, attacking her on two separate occasions.

In the first incident, on August 31st around 10pm, he slipped under her mosquito net while she slept and touched her inappropriately. He ran away when she confronted him, later offering her sugar beans in a bid to silence her. Although the victim told her husband, he initially asked her not to report the matter to protect his younger brother.

Just two days later, on September 2nd, the man returned and attempted to sexually assault her again. The court was told he repeated his offer of beans and even asked her to sweep away his footprints to hide evidence.

For the first offence, he received a 12-month jail term, and for the second, a further 18 years, leaving him to serve a total of 19 years behind bars.
