Kariba Floating Solar Project Set to Boost Zimbabwe’s Power Supply

The government has announced plans to launch the country’s first floating solar power plant on Lake Kariba, a major renewable energy project expected to generate 600 megawatts of electricity.
The initiative will be led by the private sector and rolled out in three phases over five years.
According to Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development Minister Dr. Anxious Masuka, the first phase will begin in the second quarter of 2026 and will deliver 150 megawatts.
“Once completed, the project will help reduce power shortages and support the country’s clean energy goals”.Masuka explained
Minister Masuka described the floating solar plant as “a first of its kind in Zimbabwe.”
The Minister further stated that ,the Kariba Floating Solar Power Plant marks a significant step toward diversifying Zimbabwe’s energy mix while tapping into innovative, sustainable solutions to meet rising electricity demand.
