Bellarmine Mugabe has arrived in Zimbabwe following his deportation, while cousin gets 3-year jail term

Bellarmine Chatunga Mugabe has arrived home after being fined R600,000 and ordered to be deported to Zimbabwe following a shooting incident at a family property in Hyde Park, Johannesburg.

The 28-year-old, son of late former president Robert Mugabe, was convicted after a plea deal of pointing an object resembling a firearm and violating immigration laws.

The Alexandra Magistrate Court imposed fines of R400,000 for the firearm-related charge and R200,000 for the immigration offence, with deportation to be processed via OR Tambo International Airport.

His cousin, Tobias Matondze, was sentenced to prison after being found guilty on multiple charges including attempted murder and unlawful possession of a firearm. He will serve an effective three-year term, with additional sentences running concurrently, before also being deported.

The case stems from a February 19 altercation in which a worker was shot while fleeing the scene. The victim later accepted R400,000 in compensation. Prosecutors said forensic evidence linked Matondze to the shooting.
