Zimbabwe’s junior handball teams made a commanding start at the Zone Six Championships in Lusaka on Monday, registering emphatic victories over Malawi in their opening matches.

Zimbabwe’s Under-18 side thrashed Malawi 59-20, while the Under-20 team secured a 33-15 win, giving the nation two dominant results on day one of the regional tournament.

The U-18s set the tone with a 39-point margin, controlling play on both ends of the court. The U-20s followed with an 18-point victory to complete Zimbabwe’s sweep of Malawi in the Zambian capital.

The Zone Six Championships feature national junior teams from across Southern Africa and run through the week in Lusaka. Zimbabwe entered the tournament aiming to improve on previous regional showings.

Both Zimbabwe sides are scheduled to play their second group fixtures on today as pool play continues.
