Vice President General (Rtd) Dr. Constantino Chiwenga is in Baku, Azerbaijan, for the 13th Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13), where global leaders, policymakers and development experts are discussing sustainable urbanisation and housing development.

The World Urban Forum, convened by the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), is regarded as the world’s leading international conference on sustainable urban development and is held every two years.

This year’s forum is running from 17 to 22 May under the theme, “Housing the World: Safe and Resilient Cities and Communities.”

WUF13 has brought together governments, local authorities, urban planners, academics, private sector representatives and civil society organisations to deliberate on challenges linked to rapid urbanisation, housing shortages, climate resilience and access to basic urban services.

According to organisers, discussions at the forum are focusing on issues including affordable housing, informal settlements, urban infrastructure, climate adaptation and financing for resilient cities. The meeting is also expected to contribute to global policy discussions around the implementation of the UN New Urban Agenda.
