Zimbabwe’s men’s 4x400m relay team won gold at the 2026 African Senior Athletics Championships in Accra, Ghana, after clocking 3 minutes 1.11 seconds in a closely contested final on Sunday.
The Zimbabwean quartet finished ahead of Kenya and Morocco in a dramatic race at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium, delivering one of the country’s standout performances at the continental event.
The team’s victory was built on strong baton exchanges and a powerful anchor leg that held off a late challenge from Kenya.
Meanwhile, South Africa finished top of the overall medal table with 20 medals, including nine gold medals, ahead of Kenya. Nigeria also impressed after winning the women’s 4x400m relay in 3 minutes 29.25 seconds.
Host nation Ghana ended the championships without a gold medal, finishing 18th overall.
