ZRP warns public on harbouring criminals

Zimbabwe Republic Police National Spokesperson , Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi , has warned memebers of the public on protecting and hiding criminals in return of freebies.

Ass Comm Nyathi told our news desk that they had a hard time in arresting a quintet which has been stealing vehicles across the country between October 2022 and March 2023.

ZRP arrested Trymore Jakarasi ( 35), Tendai Chitsinde (51) , Tawanda Walter Machinguta ( 41,) Shepherd Madaka ( 41) and Tawanda Bvereko (39) in connection with several counts of theft of property and cash all valued at USD 108 685 after a tip off from members of the public.

“We appeal to members of the public to work with the police in identifying criminals that aere in the business of stealin vehicles from unsuspecting motorists and stealing money and cellphones amongst other things. As we can see some of these criminals are working with members of the public giving them money and other freebies and as such we are appealing to the public to work with the police. The criminals that were apprehended have been patrolling in Bulawayo , Gweru , Chinhoyi and Harare stealing from people armed with guns and other weapons. Members of the public should be on high alert “, said Ass Comm Nyathi .

Police detectives reacted swiftly to the tip off and intercepted the suspects who were traveling in a get away Toyota Mark X motor vehicle fixed with an AEN 3373 number plate

Upon arrest the suspects had two gate remote controls, T- bars, an HP laptop , a Canon cam corder and a JVC High Definition camera

Meanwhile Ass Comm Nyathi said the police will continue to apply great pressure on those commiting serious crimes pointing out armed robbers.
