Highlanders football club’s assistant coach Antonio Torres , is reluctant to play the championship winning card as the Premier Soccer league kicks off this weekend.

Responding to questions during a pre-match press conference on Thursday, ahead of the opening match against ZPC Kariba this Sunday at Barboufields stadium , Torres who was careful not to make any promises said focus was on winning the first game .

“It is all about winning the first game and the focus on Black Rhinos only then can one talk about winning anything,” said the assistant coach selecting his words wisely as if to avoid over-promising.

The assistant coach went on to say that although the team did not know much about the opposition they will be hosting they have done enough preparations to bring home the results.

Torres said , “We know that Kariba did some changes a lot of changes so we do not have too much information about them , but more importantly focus on them is focus on us because we have talent to beat them.

It is a question of we being serious to do our job well. We understand what we should do to beat them.”

He noted the concerns raised by fans that the club did not buy players to beef up the team from last season and expressed confidence with the current squad .

“If you talk to every coach in the world they are not happy with the teams one wants Ronaldo the other wants Messi .

Under the circumstances that we have , we are happy with the current team. If you remember the last press conference we had after the league we told you guys that we did not plan to make any changes . In our opinion we didn’t have too many players but we are stronger than the last season because sometimes it’s not about having but it’s about creating stability and dynamics . we trust the boys they know that words are good but action on the field is what shows that they are talented We expect a good beginning and we believe we can do well this season “, he added.
