The Mayor, Solomon Mguni elevates six Councilors to the dignity of Alderman

Six Councillors in Bulawayo have been elevated to the dignity of Alderman at yesterday’s Mayor’s Valedictory Address held yesterday at the Large City Hall.

The event, which was under the theme, “City of Kings, a leading, smart transformative City by the year 2024”, saw Councillor for Ward 1, Mlandu Ncube who is also the Deputy Mayor, Councillor for Ward 4, Silas Chigora, Councillor for Ward 11, Pilate Moyo, Councillor for Ward 14, MacDonald Venias Chunga, Councillor for Ward 22, Rodney Donovan Jele and last but not least Councillor for Ward 25, Mzama Dube being elevated to the Alderman position.

Bulawayo Mayor Solomon Mguni, presented the Valedictory Report for the municipal years 2018 to 2023.

He expressed how it has been an honour to serve the City of Kings for the past 5 years and how he and his 29-member Council have met both successes and failures in their term of office.

In the report, the Mayor said that the City Council has been successful in six strategic programmes namely Governance and Administration, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, Social Services and Natural Resources Conservation and Management which were part of their vision of the provision of quality services to the clients and stakeholders of Bulawayo.

It was after the Valedictory Report that the Mayor addressed the meeting in regard to the occasion and the public works of the six councilor’s.

The councillors signed the Roll of Alderman and were presented with Alderman Caskets and floral tributes for their spouses.

After the councillors’ elevation to Alderman’s dignity, each of them addressed the meeting where they expressed their distinguished gratitude.
