The Results Based Finance model (RBF), is a funding by the government of Zimbabwe and the World Bank, which has over the years improved the number of women delivering at health institutions in Mangwe District of Matabeleland North Province.

This was revealed by the Plumtree Acting District Medical Director Dr Joe Nganunu during a media tour to assess the impact brought by the (RBF) program in Mangwe district recently.

Dr Nganunu said in the district in terms of (RBF) since its implementation in 2012 they has been a decrease of women also delivering at home and maternal deaths.

“In maternal and child health care delivery system , which is one of the areas in the Ministry that we take seriously .Ever since we implemented (RBF) when it comes to institutional deliveries pregnant mothers are delivering at a health facility be it at a clinic or hospital. Back then a lot of mothers were delivering at home”, said Dr Nganunu.

He added that the program introduced mothers waiting shelters in which women can have easy assess to the hospital resources and also medical practitioners can assist them in case they face pregnancy challenges.

” lt then means that most of these women are stationed at the hospital hence it makes it easier for them to be assisted by health professionals and it makes it easier to be assisted” ,said Dr Nganunu.

The (RBF) model was introduced in 2012 to help improve access to reproductive, maternal, neonatal, child health, and nutrition services for vulnerable communities across selected districts in the country.

So far the district has two main hospitals which is Plumtree district hospital and also a mission hospital ,St Anne’s Hospital which is about 100km out of Plumtree.

They also have 16 health facilities in which others are run by the Ministry of Health and Child care run and others are mission clinics.
