Joe Mataz Football tournament a success: Organiser promises to do more tournaments to support women football.

Organisers of the Joe Mataz Football tournament which was successfully held in Pumula North yesterday have promised to conduct more tournaments in an effort to assist in development of women football in the country.
Torai Mari United Football Club won the tournament after winning all three of the matches they played against Mposa FC, Western Rangers and Loxion, where they beat all of them by a 2:0 scoreline.
The winners as well as all the participating teams got price moneys of different amounts.
Speaking to the media after the matches, the organiser of the event Mr Joe Maponga from Joe Mataz Building and Construction which sponsored the program said he was delighted with the good football displayed on the day and revealed plans to conduct more of such tournaments.
“All the girls played good football today, we are happy with what happened. We think we are going to engage on another tournaments that are going to come. I have plenty guys who l have spoken to. They are willing to assist on another project that should be bigger than what happened today. Something big is going to come out,” said Maponga
Maponga further said more effort through scouting players from a young age and nurturing them was needed in order to improve women football.
“We need to engage in receiving small kids from schools. We need to start low, even rural. For now we don’t have sponsors to help ys search for talent and create bigger tournament, ” said Maponga.
He also expressed gratitude to the Pumula North Community who came out in numbers to support the tournament.
“I’m happy for the community of Pumula l. They must keep on supporting the girl child,” said Maponga.
Torai Mari United as the winners of the tournament got the highest price money of 100 United States Dollars, while Mposa who can second won fifty United States Dollars with Loxion Vipers coming third and winning thirty United States Dollars whereas Western Rangers also got price money of 20 dollars for participating.
