The Consumer Protection Commission, in collaboration with the Trade Measures department of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, has confiscated the Star sugar brand that was found to be sold underweight in the market.
Investigations revealed that perpetrators caught selling this underweight sugar were taken to court and fined heavily. Samples tested showed that a supposed 2kg packet of the Star sugar brand was actually only weighing 1.5kgs.
The Consumer Protection Commission is urging the public to report any instances of the Star sugar brand or other products being sold underweight or packaged illegally. Consumers can contact the Commission on the following hotline numbers to report such cases.
The Commission has stressed the importance of consumers being vigilant and verifying the weight of packaged goods before purchase to avoid being taken advantage of by unscrupulous vendors.
