The Law Society of Zimbabwe is mourning the loss of former President Sternford Moyo, a revered legal practitioner, business leader, and trailblazer on the global stage.

Moyo, who served as president of the society from 2000 to 2004, passed away on Friday, July 5, 2024. He left an indelible mark on the legal profession in Zimbabwe, chairing several prestigious boards, including Stanbic Bank Zimbabwe Limited, Schweppes Zimbabwe Limited, and the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority.

Moyo’s contributions to the legal profession went beyond Zimbabwe’s borders. He served as the co-chair of the Human Rights Institute of the International Bar Association (IBA) and became the first African to be elected president of the IBA in 2021.

Mr Moyo was at the time of his death a senior partner and chairman of one of Zimbabwe’s oldest and largest law firms, Scanlen & Holdemess, which he joined in 1981. He was admitted as a legal practitioner in 1982. He is survived by his wife, Mrs Sarah Moyo, and 3 children.
