The First Lady, Amai Auxilia Mnangagwa visited Chikurubi Female Prison yesterday, donating toiletries, food and blankets to female prisoners, and their children.
Accompanied by female deputy ministers, spouses of ministers, and permanent secretaries, the First Lady spent the day cooking and sharing a meal with the inmates, listening to their stories and offering words of encouragement.
Through her Angel of Hope Foundation, the First Lady donated an assortment of essential items to the prison, including food, toiletries, and blankets. Pregnant and nursing women received special care packages, complete with baby preparation kits and baby blankets.
While they serve their time for various crimes, the First Lady recognizes the importance of empowering them with skills and resources to become self-sufficient upon release.
In partnership with the Ministry of Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Development, the First Lady’s office will facilitate skills training and projects for the female inmates, equipping them with the tools they need to rebuild their lives.
