Government Removes VAT on Meat Products

The Ministry of Finance, Development and Investment Promotion announced the removal of value-added tax (VAT) on beef, pork, and poultry products yesterday.
The ministry’s Permanent Secretary Mr George Guvamatanga made the announcement in a plenary, highlighting the government’s commitment to enhancing living standards and fostering a healthier population.
He said , “This means that the price of beef, pork had actually been reduced. It also means that the price of chicken has also been reduced, because we also reduced on all poultry products.
“Even the minister announced during the budget there were further consultations that looks at poverty areas of Zimbabwe. So we have also removed VAT on eggs, said Mr Guvamatanga.
He also said the removal of VAT is expected to lower retail prices, making nutritious meat products more accessible to lower-income families.
The VAT removal aims to improve the affordability of meat products and boost consumption and sales in the meat market, therefore, consumers can expect lower prices.
