The National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) has been struck by a series of suspected arson attacks, with fires breaking out at its facilities in Bulawayo and Harare.
The fires have destroyed several stationary wagons and passenger coaches, although no fatalities have been reported.
In Bulawayo, a fire on the 16th of September led to the destruction of 44 decommissioned passenger coaches. Meanwhile, in Harare, three coaches were torched at the shunters complex.
NRZ officials suspect that the incidents are coordinated arson attacks and have launched investigations in collaboration with the Zimbabwe Republic Police to identify and apprehend those responsible. The NRZ has vowed to take decisive action against the perpetrators.
