Veteran Artiste Ishmael Muvingi Passes Away

Zimbabwean artiste Ishmael “Litshe” Muvingi, renowned for his work with Siyaya Arts and Umkhathi Theatre Works, passed away last night in Bulawayo. He was 46 years old.
Matesu Dube, founder and director of Umkhathi, confirmed the sad news, stating, “We are mourning the death of our fellow colleague and brother Ishmael Muvingi who died last night. The cause of his death is not yet established.”
Muvingi’s artistic journey began in 1994. A decade later, he embarked on his first international tour with Umkhathi, attending the Aberdeen International Youth Festival in Scotland.
In 2006, he toured with Siyaya Arts, spending nine years with the group and performing across Europe and Asia.
In 2016, Muvingi formed the group “A Band with No Name” and later pursued a solo career, releasing the album “Mix Masala” in 2022.
He was a recipient of the National Arts Merit Awards and the Roil Bulawayo Arts Awards.
