Alleged Fake Doctor Granted Bail in Bulawayo

Taurai Prosper Vhanuvaone, the man accused of posing as a doctor at Mpilo Central Hospital, has been granted bail by Bulawayo magistrate Nomagugu Maphosa.

After initially being denied bail, Vhanuvaone was released on US$100 bail under strict conditions, pending trial.

The court’s earlier decision to deny bail was based on concerns raised by the prosecution, which argued that Vhanuvaone posed both a flight risk and a danger to society.

Despite his defence team’s efforts to challenge these claims, citing the case of State vs Bongani and Others and emphasizing his role as caretaker for his chronically ill mother and grandmother, the magistrate ruled in favor of keeping him in custody.

However, at a subsequent hearing this afternoon, the court reversed its decision and granted Vhanuvaone bail, subject to several conditions. He is required to report to the Zimbabwe Republic Police Criminal Investigations Department’s Commercial Crimes Division (ZRP CID CCD) every Friday, reside at his registered address in Barberfields, Bulawayo, and avoid any contact with state witnesses.

Vhanuvaone, who is accused of impersonating a doctor at one of Bulawayo’s largest hospitals, will face trial on October 7.
