The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has officially concluded the 2024 Firearms Amnesty, during which 69 firearms were voluntarily surrendered by the public.
The amnesty period, aimed at encouraging the surrender of illegal firearms and ammunition, has now ended.
In a statement, the ZRP confirmed they will now launch a nationwide crackdown targeting individuals and businesses still in possession of illegal firearms. This operation is part of broader efforts to enhance public safety and combat crimes such as armed robbery and murder.
The ZRP has urged the public to cooperate with law enforcement as they transition from voluntary surrender to strict enforcement. Those found with illegal firearms or ammunition will face prosecution under Zimbabwean law, as authorities work to ensure a safer environment across the country.
