Retired Colonel Tshinga Dube, a prominent figure in Zimbabwe’s political landscape and a stalwart of the liberation struggle, passed away yesterday at Mater Dei Hospital. His contributions to the nation were profound, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and resilience.

Born on July 3, 1941, Dube was 83 years old at the time of his passing. He was a pivotal leader in Zimbabwe African People’s Union’s (ZAPU) military wing, ZIPRA, during the liberation struggle against colonial rule. His leadership and strategic acumen were instrumental in the fight for independence, embodying the spirit of resistance and the quest for freedom that defined a generation.

Following Zimbabwe’s independence, Dube continued to serve his country with distinction. He joined the Zimbabwe National Army, where he held the crucial position of Director of Signals, ensuring effective communication within the military. His expertise also extended to the Ministry of Defence, where he served as Deputy Secretary and Director of Research and Development, playing a key role in shaping the country’s defense policies and strategies.

Dube’s commitment to his country did not wane with the end of the liberation struggle; he remained actively involved in politics as a member of the Politburo and a former Member of Parliament for Makokoba. As mourners gather to pay their respects, a funeral wake for Retired Colonel Tshinga Dube will be held at 168 Shirley Road, Killarney, Bulawayo. Evening services will commence at 5:30 PM, providing an opportunity for family, friends, and comrades to celebrate the life of a true patriot.
