The Bulawayo City Council has issued a health alert following an outbreak of mpox, a viral disease prevalent in parts of central and western Africa, including neighboring South Africa.

In a statement issued by the local authority, residents have been urged to take precautions to prevent the disease from spreading to the city. Mpox is characterized by symptoms such as skin rashes, fever, headaches, muscle aches, and swollen lymph nodes. The virus spreads through close contact with infected individuals, contaminated materials, or animals.

The council advises practicing good hygiene, avoiding contact with infected persons, and considering vaccination if necessary. Local health authorities are actively working to contain the outbreak and ensure public safety, urging residents to remain vigilant and informed.
