The Zimbabwe Council of Churches(ZCC) held a capacity enhancement training today for community based organisations and faith-based organisations at Medithodist church in Bulawayo.

The event will run for two days under the theme ‘Comprehensive Broad Based National Dialogue. Lasting solutions for Zimbabwe’. It aimed at educating the community about what is happening in their country in turns of policies and economic development.

Speaking in an interview, Bishop Lazarus Mpande Khanye said the training will end the victim mindset and encourage independence.

“We have always had the mentality of being poor. Let us get rid of that mentality and love our nation and look for business to start. It can be farming or selling vegetables because we have the land and we have the land for agriculture. We will pray for rain so that we can get rid of poverty and not rely on others to come and help us, “said Khanye.

In attendance were church leaders from different denominations, community organisations, and differently abled people. Manyano chairperson for Bulawayo Judith Dliwayo said such training equips women with knowledge to be part of the decision-making process.

“In the event that they are invited somewhere or when something is happening in the community, women should be free and knowledgeable and able to independent to go to forums where things like the national budget are being discussed. They should be able to participate because most of the time, women are left out when budget decisions are made, “explained Dliwayo.

The training seminar comes as the national budget consultation are happening so people can understand what national funds are being used for and so that they can add their opinions.
