President Mnangagwa Mourns Phathisa Nyathi, Grants State-Assisted Funeral

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has expressed his condolences following the passing of Cde Phathisa Nyathi, a respected historian, educator, and advocate for Zimbabwean arts and cultur

In honor of Nyathi’s lifelong dedication to Zimbabwe’s cultural heritage, President Mnangagwa has granted him a State-assisted funeral.

Nyathi’s death, the President emphasized, is a great loss to the nation, as he leaves behind a rich legacy of work dedicated to reclaiming and preserving Zimbabwe’s history.

Nyathi’s career focused on documenting key historical events, including the Pupu Battle of National Resistance and the life of King Lobengula, works that reshaped understanding of Zimbabwe’s past and countered colonial narratives.

His contributions extended into the arts, where his efforts transformed Bulawayo into a vibrant cultural center, earning it recognition as the National Capital of the Arts.
