Bulawayo Mayor Mourns Passing of Influential Historian Pathisa Nyati

The Mayor of Bulawayo, Senator David Coltart, has expressed sorrow over the passing of Pathisa Nyathi, a prominent historian and cultural advocate whose dedication to preserving Bulawayo’s heritage left a lasting impact on the city and Matabeleland.

Nyathi’s death marks a significant loss for Bulawayo’s leadership and residents. His work extended beyond historical documentation, championing local arts, indigenous knowledge, and heritage through projects such as the Amagugu Heritage Centre and My Beautiful Home,,Comba Indlu ngobuciko.

These initiatives celebrated traditional practices and empowered local artisans, contributing to a cultural revival in the region.

As a former Public Relations Officer for the City of Bulawayo, Nyathi played an essential role in shaping public understanding of city affairs and creating a strong connection between the government and its people. His legacy is credited with fostering civic pride and a deeper appreciation of Bulawayo’s history.

Nyathi’s will be laid to rest tomorrow at Lady Stanley Cemetery.
