The Southern African Development Community (SADC) Electoral Observation Mission (SEOM) has been deployed to Namibia for the country’s general elections, set for November 27, 2024.

This deployment aligns with Article 3 of the revised SADC Principles and Guidelines Governing Democratic Elections (2021), which requires SADC to observe all general elections within member states.

According to SADC, the SEOM team, led by Honourable Anne Semamba Makinda, former Speaker of Tanzania’s Parliament, will monitor the pre-election, polling, and post-election phases.

The team will consult various electoral stakeholders to understand Namibia’s political and security environments and evaluate the Electoral Commission of Namibia’s (ECN) preparedness.

SEOM’s deployment is a key step in promoting the integrity and credibility of Namibia’s elections and supporting a peaceful, democratic transition.
