South African-based Magesi Football Club goalkeeper Elvis Chipezeze is hopeful of earning a recall to the Zimbabwe national team, provided he continues to work hard and improve. His recent standout performances in the Carling Black Label Cup have boosted his confidence.
Chipezeze played a key role in Magesi’s historic 2-1 victory over league champions Sundowns, securing the club’s first-ever Carling Black Label Cup. The goalkeeper’s stellar performances earned him four Man of the Match awards, each worth R100,000, as his team marched to victory.
Speaking to South African media, Chipezeze expressed his openness to returning to the Warriors but emphasized the need for continued improvement.
“I am focused on helping my team grow that’s the most important thing right now. Personally, I would like to return to the national team, but the guys there are also performing well. It’s encouraging that I’m in the frame now, thanks to my performances and hard work,” he said.
He further acknowledged that his potential recall depends on the coach’s decision.
“At the end of the day, it’s the coach’s decision. All I can do is keep working hard because it’s pointless to expect a call-up without performing. That wouldn’t be fair to the players who are performing. I’ll continue working hard, and they say hard work brings rewards. I’ll maintain consistency, and with AFCON coming up in December next year, there’s still time. My focus is on producing good performances week in and week out, and the rest will take care of itself.”, he added.
Meanwhile, former Chicken Inn striker Edmore Chirambadare played a pivotal role in Magesi’s victory, providing assists for both goals that secured the trophy for his team.
