The government has appointed renowned wildlife ecologist Professor Edson Gandiwa as the new Director-General of the Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (ZimParks).

With over 20 years of experience in wildlife management, Gandiwa is a Professor of Wildlife Conservation and Management and a former Dean at Chinhoyi University of Technology.

ZimParks spokesperson, Tinashe Farawo, confirmed Gandiwa’s academic credentials and leadership experience.

In his speech, Gandiwa emphasized ZimParks’ strategies for conserving and protecting Zimbabwe’s wildlife heritage.

“The key enablers that we will also push and continue with as we conserve our wildlife heritage include, among others, building confidence in the Zimparks administration and systems,” Gandiwa stated.

“This includes enhancing staff morale, establishing a robust organogram that effectively addresses national needs, and improving the efficiency of Zimparks operations. Good corporate governance, enhancing sustainability in Zimparks operations, and human capital development are also crucial,” he added.

Gandiwa has authored over 90 journal articles and presented at over 40 international conferences. He takes over from Dr. Fulton Mangwanya, now the Director-General of the Central Intelligence Organization (CIO).
