Two game rangers from Hwange have been arrested for allegedly supplying over 70 kilograms of impala meat to local restaurants in violation of the Parks and Wildlife Act.

Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (Zimparks) spokesperson Tinashe Farawo confirmed the arrests, adding that the suspects are set to appear in court soon.

“Yes, we can confirm the arrest of two of our officers in Hwange, Northwest, Matebeleland, for violating Section 59 (2) (b) of the Parks and Wildlife Act, Chapter 20:14. These officers are suspected of supplying game meat to restaurants in that region. We want to send a clear message to any rogue elements within our organization that you will be held accountable. The long arm of the law will reach you,” said Farawo.

The incident highlights the persistent challenge of wildlife trafficking and corruption within conservation. However, it also underscores Zimparks’ efforts to expose and eliminate rogue elements to protect Zimbabwe’s natural heritage for future generations.
