The Zimbabwe Association of Women in Mining Associations (ZAWIMA) is attending the Mining Indaba for the first time, aiming to strengthen women’s participation in the sector. This year’s theme, “Future-Proofing African Mining, Today!” aligns with ZAWIMA’s mission to promote sustainability, inclusivity, and equitable opportunities for women in mining.

ZAWIMA Chairperson, Mrs. Kundai Chikonzo-Midzi, said the platform will provide critical insights on improving women’s mining operations in Zimbabwe.

“Women in mining face a lot of challenges, ranging from societal barriers to lack of empowerment and limited access to finance. However, here at the Mining Indaba, we are bringing together women from various countries and backgrounds to share experiences and best practices.

“Our goal is to exchange ideas, learn from one another, and gain valuable insights that we can apply when we return to Zimbabwe. We are committed to supporting each other in tackling the unique challenges we face, from the artisanal small-scale miners to those operating in the large-scale sector. By empowering and uplifting one another, we can drive positive change and improve our mining operations,” said Chikonzo-Midzi.

At the ongoing Mining Indaba, ZAWIMA is engaging in discussions on sustainable practices, technological advancements, and community-focused mining. The organization hopes to leverage these insights to drive policy changes and create more opportunities for women in Zimbabwe’s mining industry.
