The Bulawayo Progressive Residents Association (BPRA) has joined the global community in commemorating the International Day of Human Fraternity, emphasizing the need for unity, peace, and mutual respect among communities.
As a local civil society organization, BPRA advocates for dialogue, empathy, and cooperation to foster social cohesion. Speaking to SkyzMetro FM, BPRA’s Provisional Secretary for Administration, Mr. Thabani Ndlovu, highlighted the importance of solidarity in building a more inclusive and harmonious society.
“Everyday, we commemorate this spirit of unity through our work in the communities. We strive to foster a sense of togetherness, where everyone feels like part of one big family, regardless of their racial, religious, tribal, or socio-economic background. As a human rights advocate, I strongly believe that every individual deserves to be treated with dignity and respect, and that we should all strive to treat one another as equals,” said Ndlovu.
The International Day of Human Fraternity, observed annually on February 4, marks the signing of the Document on Human Fraternity in 2019 by Pope Francis and Grand Imam Ahmed Al-Tayeb. Established by the United Nations in 2020, the day serves as a global reminder of the need to uphold human dignity, promote peaceful coexistence, and bridge divisions within communities.
