Highlanders Football Club has breathed a sigh of relief after avoiding a FIFA-imposed transfer ban, thanks to the timely intervention of businessman Wicknell Chivayo. The club faced the sanction after failing to settle outstanding payments to former coach Baltemar Brito and his assistant, Antonio Joao Torres.

Last week, the FIFA Disciplinary Committee slapped Bosso with the ban due to an unpaid balance of US$26 500. The threat of being unable to sign new players loomed large over the club, casting a shadow over their preparations ahead of the 2025 Premier Soccer League season.

However, Chivayo, a known supporter of the club, stepped up and pledged to cover the debt. Highlanders confirmed in a statement that the payment has now been made in full, effectively avoiding the ban.

The club expressed its sincerest gratitude to Mr. Chivayo for his generous gesture in settling the outstanding debts of the two coaches in full, as promised. The statement further emphasized Chivayo’s long standing commitment to the club, particularly as they approach their 100 year milestone celebrations this year.
