The Ministry of Industry and Commerce has taken decisive action by destroying tonnes of seized counterfeit, expired, and damaged goods, reinforcing its zero-tolerance stance on business malpractice.
Speaking at a media briefing, Mr. Tawedzera Muwani from the Harare Anti-Smuggling Taskforce emphasized the collaborative efforts with the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, the Ministry of Health and Child Care, and Geo Pomona. He highlighted that the confiscated goods posed serious health risks, making their destruction necessary.
“Let me be clear,” Muwani emphasized, “we destroy things we seize non-human consumable, illegal, short weight, short mass. We do not take them home. We want to show evidence and transparency, and this exercise is a demonstration of things to come.”
The Ministry is committed to safeguarding public trust by ensuring only safe and legitimate products reach the market. Citizens are urged to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities or products to the authorities.
