The Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe (TSCZ) today held a graduation ceremony for Bulawayo musicians who completed a free two-day defensive driving course aimed at enhancing their road safety skills and promoting safer driving habits across the country.
Speaking at the ceremony, TSCZ Director of Operations and Marketing, Mr. T. Mahundi, emphasized the importance of involving musicians in road safety campaigns, noting that their influence as public figures can help spread awareness.
“As the Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe, our mandate is to promote road safety through training and education,” Mahundi said. “Hence, this initiative, which we have extended to musicians. We feel that when someone is trained as a defensive driver, they become a better driver on the road, able to prevent accidents despite the incorrect actions of others. So, we understand this is a very good initiative, and the word will go far.”
TSCZ Bulawayo Regional Manager, Mrs. B. Mpofu, commended the musicians for their participation, acknowledging the common perception that artists are difficult to engage in such initiatives,
“These artists have proven to us that even as celebrities, they prioritize traffic safety,” Mpofu said. “Today is a very important day where we’re giving them their Defensive Driving Course certificates after they took the time and completed the course.”
TSCZ Brand Ambassador Sandra Ndebele highlighted that musicians frequently travel for performances, making road safety a priority. She expressed confidence that their involvement would strengthen TSCZ’s efforts in promoting responsible driving.
“As you know, most creatives drive a lot, traveling to their gigs, and they use our roads more than anyone. That’s why we chose them to come and do this course, so they can be our mouthpiece as the Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe. We know they have a lot of followers and people,” she stated.
Among the graduates were renowned artists and TSCZ brand ambassadors Jays Marabini and Sandra Ndebele, alongside Thandy Dlana, Future Dube, Clayton Chehore, Msiz’kay, and Matesu Dube, among others.
