In a recent development for Zimbabwean football, the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) is set to receive 40 hectares of land from the Harare City Council for the construction of a much-needed stadium.

This announcement followed a meeting between ZIFA President Nqobile Magwizi and Harare City Mayor Jacob Mafume yesterday, where the council outlined its proposal.

As part of the agreement, the city will lease one of its sports clubs to ZIFA for the construction of the association’s proposed state-of-the-art headquarters. This move is part of a broader effort to modernize football infrastructure and support the development of talent across the country.

Mayor Jacob Mafume reiterated the city’s commitment to ZIFA’s vision, emphasizing that the council would continue to support the association in its efforts to nurture and develop local football talent.

ZIFA President Nqobile Magwizi expressed his appreciation for the gesture, assuring the mayor and the city that the association is ready to begin work on the proposed facilities. His commitment highlights ZIFA’s ambition to become a well-governed and organized institution, setting the stage for the future of Zimbabwean football.

This initiative comes at a time when ZIFA has been grappling with poor infrastructure, with inadequate facilities for both its headquarters and stadiums. As a result, the national team has often had to play its home games in other countries due to the lack of stadiums that meet FIFA standards. The new stadium and headquarters are expected to change the landscape of Zimbabwean football, providing a solid foundation for growth and development in the sport.
