Incoming International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Kirsty Coventry received a warm reception today at the Olympic House in Lausanne from outgoing President Thomas Bach and IOC staff.

In her welcome address, Coventry expressed gratitude for the opportunity and reaffirmed her commitment to supporting young athletes and making their dreams a reality.

“I am deeply honored and humbled to take on this incredible responsibility,” Coventry stated. “My focus will be on fostering an environment where young athletes are supported, nurtured, and given the tools they need to achieve their full potential. I believe in the power of sport to transform lives, and I am dedicated to ensuring that the Olympic values continue to inspire generations to come.”

A decorated Olympic swimming champion and former Zimbabwean Minister of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture, Coventry was elected as the 10th IOC President on March 20, 2025. She makes history as the first African and the first woman to lead the global sporting body.
