The government has pledged to resolve Bulawayo’s water challenges, as outlined in the 2025 National Budget. The Gwayi Shangani Dam is set to be completed by the end of the year.
During a post-budget discussion, Matabeleland South Member of Parliament Hon. Tinashe Mushipe emphasized that the government has taken Bulawayo’s water issues into account, allocating 7 billion towards the completion of the dam by 2025.
“The government has listened to the concerns of Bulawayo residents and has allocated ZWG 7 billion specifically for the completion of the Gwayi Shangani Dam by 2025,” Hon. Mushipe stated. “This allocation signifies the government’s commitment to ensuring a sustainable water supply for the city.”
Hon. Mushipe further highlighted that 9 billion has been allocated to the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, and Rural Development for constructing pipelines to transport water from the Gwayi Shangani Dam to Bulawayo. He reassured residents that the city’s water challenges would soon be resolved.
The government remains committed to addressing Bulawayo’s water issues, with the development of all Matabeleland South dams currently underway.
