The Bulawayo City Council has announced a delay in the scheduled restoration of water supplies due to unforeseen technical challenges at the worksite. Initially planned for today, the completion of the works and resumption of supply is now expected within seven days.
According to Bulawayo City Council Town Clerk, Mr. Christopher Dube, the delay has been caused by a combination of technical and logistical setbacks.
“Site conditions required an adjustment to the original plans, including the widening of the embankment due to loose soil. This has extended the construction timeline,” said Mr. Dube.
He also noted that “critical materials could not be secured in time, as suppliers had run out of stock and were closed over the weekend,” further hampering progress.
Mr. Dube added that the site involves “working at an elevated height, posing safety risks that necessitate strict adherence to safety protocols,” which has also contributed to the delays.
The affected suburbs include parts of the Magwegwe Reservoir supply zones, such as Cowdray Park, Pelandaba West, Njube, Mabutweni, and others, as well as Criterion direct supply areas like Nketa 6–9, Nkulumane, Bellevue, and the Matopo Research Centre.
Mr. Dube apologised for the inconvenience and assured residents that every effort is being made to complete the works safely and efficiently.
“The City of Bulawayo apologises for the inconvenience caused and assures residents that all efforts are being made to complete the works safely and as quickly as possible,” he said.
Further updates will be issued in due course.
