THE Government has called on Zimbabweans to remain vigilant following Ebola outbreaks reported in some parts of Africa, despite no cases having been detected in Zimbabwe.

Minister of Health and Child Care Dr Douglas Mombeshora said Zimbabwe remains Ebola-free. However, he warned that the disease is highly contagious and potentially deadly. He said vigilance remains critical due to increased movement of people within the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region.

Dr Mombeshora said Government activated preparedness measures immediately after the outbreak was declared and the World Health Organisation elevated the regional risk level.

Health workers are also receiving ongoing training in disease detection, infection prevention and case management.

Dr Mombeshora added that isolation facilities have been designated in Harare, Bulawayo and Chirundu, while specialised transport and personal protective equipment have been put in place.
