The National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) has announced a leadership change following the resignation of Chief Executive Officer Mr. Munyaradzi Stephen Charangwa on medical grounds.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the NRZ Board of Directors said Mr. Charangwa stepped down with immediate effect. To ensure continuity of operations, the board appointed Deputy Chief Executive Officer Mrs. Ainah Dube-Kaguru as Acting CEO while the process of recruiting a substantive chief executive begins.

NRZ Board Chairperson Dr. Misheck Sibanda said the organisation’s strategic direction remains unchanged, with rail revitalisation, infrastructure modernisation and implementation of turnaround plans continuing as scheduled under the support of the shareholder, the Mutapa Investment Fund.

The board and shareholder thanked Mr. Charangwa for his service, particularly his contribution to the development of the railway company’s strategic turnaround framework, and wished him a speedy recovery.
