Umkhathi Theatre Presents Icala Lezinduna

Umkhathi Theatre, in collaboration with the Centre for Talent Development, will present Icala Lezinduna at the Bulawayo Theatre on Thursday, 17 April. The play, performed by Umkhathi Theatre Works, is adapted from a book by S.J. Nondo and features historical Ndebele chiefs.
In an interview with Skyz Metro FM, Umkhathi Administrator Joseph Ngubo said the play highlights King Mzilikazi’s reaction to his chiefs approving Nkulumane to lead the inxwala ceremony.
“Icala lezinduna is a theatrical play which was adapted from a book that was written by S.J.Nondo. Its a compelling tale of Ndebele’s succession featuring historical figures such as Chief Gundwane Ndiweni,Nkulumani,Zinqumbi kaSiwela,King Mzilikazi and Ncumbatha”,said Ngubo.
The production runs from 18:00 to 19:30, with an entry fee of $5. It is expected to attract audiences from across the country.
Icala Lezinduna is also a Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (ZIMSEC) Advanced Level Ndebele set book. The stage adaptation aims to bring literature to life while celebrating Ndebele history and culture.
