The government is set to launch an online platform for applying for passports and national identity cards by the end of 2024.
The Civil Registry Department is developing the platform, which will be linked to the Zimbabwe Population Registry System (ZPRS), a database storing citizens’ demographic information.
The online application process will involve creating an account, filling out electronic forms, uploading documents, and paying fees electronically. A tracking system will also be available to monitor application status. Once approved, applicants can collect their passports in person or have them delivered by mail.
This initiative is part of the government’s efforts to expand its e-passport program, which has already issued over 100,000 e-passports since January 2022.
