64-Year-Old Man Jailed for Bashing Wife Over Delayed Breakfast

A 64-year-old man from Zezani Village in Beitbridge has been sentenced to 24 months in prison for brutally assaulting his wife after she delayed preparing breakfast.

The incident occurred on the 5th of October 2024, and saw the man violently attacking his wife with both a stick and a stone.

The Beitbridge Magistrate’s Court heard that the man had returned home around 8 a.m. from a memorial service and requested his wife to prepare breakfast.

While waiting for the meal, he went to Zezani Business Centre. However, upon his return, he found that breakfast was not ready and began shouting at his wife, accusing her of deliberately delaying the preparation.

The court also heard that the man grabbed a stick and struck his wife repeatedly all over her body. He then escalated the assault by hitting her on the head with a stone, causing an open wound and severe swelling. Medical examinations to determine the extent of the injuries were done and used as evidence in court.

The man was sentenced to 24 months in prison, with eight months suspended on condition of good behavior. He will serve 16 months in total.
