34-year-old Irvine Shoko from Hwange has been fined USD$150 after he threatened to murder his neighbor in a fit of rage when his marriage proposal was rejected.
The confrontation unfolded after Shoko, armed with an okapi knife, stormed into his neighbor’s homestead demanding to marry the man’s already-married daughter.
On the 6th of June 2024, Shoko approached Possent Nyathi at his home, declaring his intention to marry Nyathi’s daughter.
However, when Nyathi dismissed the proposal, reminding Shoko that his daughter was already married, Shoko’s was infuriated. Enraged by the rejection, he vowed to kill Nyathi in a heated outburst.
Police were quickly called to the scene, and upon searching Shoko, they discovered the prohibited okapi knife in his possession, further intensifying the threat he posed.
Shoko was arrested and subsequently fined $150. He also received a three-month suspended sentence on the condition that he commits no similar offense within five years.
